door breaks off December 31, 2008 Linda USA (USA) I purchased one of these and the door broke off -- in the middle of winter! The door couldn't be replaced because the hinges where you'd hang a replacement door had also broken off, so I had to replace the whole thing. Plus, I didn't want to have to resize the hole to try a new brand. I thought it was a fluke and bought another one and the same thing happened. I think maybe the hinges ice up or something when it's cold, and it become brittle and cracks. After the second one broke, I re-sized the hole, and tried a different brand with a rubberized door, and the rubber on that creased and broke off also after a couple of months. Not sure now what the best suggestion is for a cat door/cat flap. Hmmmm. I'm just really glad I didn't cut a hole in a door to fit one of these -- I installed it in one of the window panes in my basement window. So if I decide it's not worth the hassle of the door breaking off every 3-6 months, I can always replace the window pane with glass again. So my advice is to think hard before you cut a hole in your door for this!
awesome kitty door! December 28, 2008 L.B. (Medford, WI USA) I love this kitty door. My car had no problem using it. The price was great, good delivery. Love it....love it!
trapped cat October 13, 2008 Becca 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This door seemed great. I had to work with my cat for a while to train him on pushing the plastic flap, but eventually he got it and it was working well. I use it to connect a window on a closed in porch that has his kitty litter in it, to the kitchen. If I keep the kitty litter in the house, the dog will eat it. After he had fully mastered the system, I then went away overnight. When I returned, I found a very traumatized, upset kitty trapped on my back porch. In his travels back and forth, he had loosened the small piece of plastic that locks the flap. He hadn't been able to return back into the house and to his food and water. I promptly broke off the piece of plastic that allows it to lock; it's simply not a safe product with it.
Good Product September 30, 2008 Andrew J. Erion (Pierre, SD USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The installation was fairly quick and easy. I installed 2 in less than 45 minutes. I would have given it 5 stars if the back of the door screwed in like the front. The double sided tape is holding so far, but I'm sure the tape will eventually fail and the back side will fall off.
Maybe It's My Cat's Fault September 8, 2008 T. Boehnlein (Dayton, Ohio, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
She isn't the brightest cat around. The whole reason I got the cat door was so the cat could get out of my bedroom without waking me (she would make a whole bunch of noise at 4AM) but not be able to get back in unless I want her in. I ended up doing quite a bit of modding to the door to make it quiet. At first, she would just paw at the flap. This would then smack back down and make a ton of noise which defeated the purpose. Now I have the flap smack into padding instead of hard plastic. It's not a horrible door. It doesn't jam or anything like that. The side that is not held on by screws did fall off like other people had said. I really don't care though. For reference, I did install it on a hollow door.
